Former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad Raises Concerns Over Integrity of KPK Due to Investigation Document Leaks
Abraham Samad, the former chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), has issued a warning that the leaking of investigation documents could lead to the destruction of the KPK. He stated that the documents contain crucial investigation strategies, including who will be questioned and what evidence will be sought. Samad pointed out that if these documents are leaked, the targeted parties could tamper with evidence and obscure the events to make it difficult for the KPK to prove corruption allegations in court.
Samad further stated that this violation is a crime that cannot be forgiven, and it undermines anti-corruption efforts and jeopardizes the future of the KPK. He also highlighted communication between KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak and the Head of the Legal Bureau of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, M. Idris Froyoto Sihite, regarding mining business licenses (IUP), which is related to the alleged IUP corruption.
Samad urged the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) to impose severe punishment on KPK leaders who violate ethics. He argued that Dewas has not been able to impose severe punishment on KPK leaders who repeatedly violate ethics, which could lead to further corruption and rot within the organization. He emphasized that punishment, in this case, should include removal from office.
In conclusion, Abraham Samad's concerns about the integrity of the KPK are a wake-up call to all those concerned about the rule of law in Indonesia. The KPK is a crucial institution in the fight against corruption, and it is vital that it remains strong and independent to continue its mission of ensuring accountability and transparency in Indonesia. The KPK's Supervisory Board should take swift and decisive action to address any ethical violations and preserve the integrity of the institution.
