KPK Arrests Mayor of Bandung in Corruption Sting

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has once again conducted a raid, or "operasi tangkap tangan" (OTT), on Friday, April 14, 2023. This time, the KPK targeted the Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana, in relation to alleged corruption involving the Smart City program in the city.

According to KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri, the raid also resulted in the arrest of nine officials from the Bandung Transportation Agency (Dishub). "So far, nine people have been arrested, including the mayor and several other officials from the Bandung Transportation Agency," he said.

The KPK's investigation into the alleged corruption in the Smart City program reportedly led to the discovery of irregularities in the procurement of CCTV cameras and internet networks in the city.

After the arrests were made, the KPK announced that six individuals, including Mayor Yana Mulyana, had been named as suspects in the case. The other suspects were identified as DD, the head of the Bandung Transportation Agency, KR, the agency's secretary, BN, the director of PT SMA, SS, the CEO of PT CIFO, and AG, the manager of PT SMA.

During the raid, the KPK also seized a significant amount of money, both in Indonesian rupiah and foreign currency. The investigation is ongoing, and further details of the alleged corruption are expected to be revealed in due course.

This latest corruption sting is just one of many conducted by the KPK in recent years, as the organization continues its efforts to combat corruption in Indonesia. The KPK has faced criticism and pushback from some politicians and officials, who argue that it oversteps its bounds and targets innocent people, but the organization has maintained that its investigations are impartial and based on evidence.
